Oregon Beaches
The beaches of Oregon are public lands and have been for over 50 years.

Thor's Well 2
I made 5 different trips to Thor's Well before I captured this image. Planning for this image included watching for a moderate tide, about a 5-foot swell and less than 10 knots of wind. I was also looking for a minor amount of cloud cover to add color to the sky. Something always kept me from capturing a keeper image previously. Now, I have an image that I am happy with.

Thors Well after Sunset
Image taken at Thor's Well on the Oregon Coast. The perfect weather and swell conditions for a nice flow into the hole.

Winter Waves
The wind blows the spray off the curl of the waves, photograph taken along the Oregon Coast

Ecola View
7 image panoramic image taken from Ecola State Park. The view at sunset includes Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock.

Bandon Beach Sunrise
October sunrise at Bandon Beach, Oregon. This morning the sky and clouds reflected on the wet sand with pretty pastel colors.

Heceta Head Lighthouse
Heceta Head lighthouse, on the Oregon Coast, was built in 1894, is 56 feet high and the light beam is visible for 21 Nautical miles.

Beverly Beach Sunset
Winter sunset at Beverly Beach, near Newport, Oregon. The surf was rolling in, and the clouds parted for the perfect sunset photograph. After sunset we walked back to the campground and enjoyed smore's around the campfire.

Seal Rock Sunset
The fog was socked in tight, and I did not think any good light was going to happen. Then just before sunset the fog lifted, and the sky exploded in vivid colors, which reflected on the beach.

Foggy Sunset
I waited for quite a while hoping the fog would clear for sunset. The fog finally cleared just before sunset, making the wait to capture this image worthwhile.

Oceanside 4
This picture of the beach at sunrise was taken at Oceanside, Oregon. It was taken on an early July morning. You can access this section of beach by crossing the headland at low tide or going through the tunnel. Make sure your headlamp batteries are in good condition before hand, it is really dark in the tunnel.

Ecola View 2
Venus's Belt is clearly visible in this image taken at Ecola State Park. Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach are in the background.

October Surf Sunset
The sun sets along the Oregon Coast at Cape Kiwanda, while surfers enjoy the day.

Oceanside 3
Sunrise picture of the beach at Oceanside, Oregon. I was up early for this July sunrise, and had the beach to myself for almost an hour. The sun was lighting up the clouds as it rose over the coast range.

Graveyard of the Pacific
This image was taken in March at Fort Stevens State Park in Oregon. Spring storms bring blue skies and dark clouds

Sandstone Cliffs, Oregon Coast
Blustery winds buffeted the camera, making it hard to get a sharp image of Oregon's Sandstone cliffs

Charleston Boat Basin
Charleston, Oregon boat basin on a December morning. Venus's belt with the pink and purple in the sky were captured in this image.

Thor's Well 3
Image captured just before the sun dropped below the horizon at Thor's Well on the Oregon Coast.

Yachats Afternoon
Image captured in late afternoon, south of Yachats, Oregon. Watching the Pacific ocean crash on the shoreline as the sun sinks lower in the sky.

Thor's Well
Conditions at Thor's Well were not quite right for the typical hole in the ocean image. The incoming swell was a little too high and the tide a little too low. However, it was a good thing I had my raincoat and a raincoat for the camera.

Perpetua Splash
Waves crash upon the basalt rock formations south of Cape Perpetua. The north wind was blowing, so I am glad I had a rain coat for me and the camera, while I captured this image.
Washington Beaches
Washington does not have the same public beach access laws that Oregon does. However, there are still over 1200 access points accounting for 37 percent of the Washington marine shoreline.

Rialto Beach View
Image of Rialto Beach, Olympic National Park, WA., from the overland trail. Looking south to Gun site rocks, or Split Rock down to James island off of La Push. The giants toothpicks line the shore.

Rialto Beach Sunset 3
Sunset at Rialto Beach, Olympic National Park, looking north toward Hole in the Wall. The sun was reflected off the sky after it had set below the horizon.

North Head Lighthouse
The sun peaked under the clouds before it dropped over the horizon, at North Head Lighthouse. I took the picture just as the light in the lighthouse was pointed my way.
California Beaches

Salt Point After Sunset
Salt Point Sunset, reflection of the setting sun with a longer exposure creating mist over the rocks

Point Arena Long Exposure
10 second long exposure, using a 6 stop neutral density filter. Image of Point Arena and the lighthouse

Sandstone Tafoni and Waves
Sandstone Tafoni at Salt Creek State Park, California. The sandstone formations here remind me of the rocks near Cape Arago, Oregon

Sonoma Coast Sunset 2
Sunset on the Sonoma, California Coast. The sunset refects off the clouds and light ups the water and rocks
